I have decided, in the very last month of the year, that it’s not too late to make some resolutions to improve my life. I have had a crazy year full of ups and downs, I have made some massive changes in my life and overall I am much happier now than I was a year ago. However, there are still some things that I would like to do to make myself healthier and happier.
Plan something social every week.
Since I’ve moved to a new place I’ve spent a lot of time on my own due to the nature of my work and the fact that I haven’t made a lot of new friends yet. I want to make more of an effort to arrange a coffee date or a cinema trip or even a shopping trip with someone. I am already planning on going to a work Christmas party this week so I am off to a good start.
Exercise 3 times a week
Ughhh… this goal is so boring. But necessary for me as I literally haven’t incorporated any exercise into my life in the last few months. It is a cornerstone of self-care. Movement – any kind of movement is important in your daily life. My goal for this month is to get out for a walk, or else yoga or pilates at home on my yoga mat. I haven’t moved much in the last few months so I will be starting out small – 20-30 mins a day. I will build it up again and intend to join a gym again in January.
Plan my meals
Another boring goal but again totally necessary. This was part of my CBT-E therapy for managing my eating disorder. I have slacked on this for the last couple of weeks meaning that I have been going hungry or else overeating. Not good. So planning my meals will help me to manage this and make sure I am eating regularly and eating enough to sustain me.
Write Down One Thing I Am Grateful For Every Day
This is something I have started recently as part of my #positivitychallenge. I have decided to try to see the positive part of everything. It’s really not easy. But last week I saw a huge difference in my well-being and thoughts just by finding something I am grateful for in my life. It starts to put things into perspective. Last week was a very tough week for me, but I managed. And that is something I am grateful for. That I got through it.
Take Pictures of Happy Things
Basically, I intend to take pictures of things that make me happy- a cup of coffee on a Monday morning, a new outfit that makes me feel good, a friend smiling. That way, I can look back on my photos and feel good about things that happened to me that week. It’s just my little way of giving myself a boost and reminding myself that I have things in my life that make me feel happy.
So that’s it. My goals may seem very simplistic. But for me they are basics of my self-care, and that’s what I need right now in the month leading up to Christmas. I also fully intend to eat what I want, wear what I want and do what I want. All within reason. 😉
