I’ve decided I am going to do one of these posts every month where I outline some of my favourite things of the month.
January 2018. What can I say? Possibly the longest month I have ever endured (and that includes the months I did Teaching Practice!) But it was actually a very good month for me. At the start of the month, I laid out my goals for the year (which you can see here ) and I have been breaking these into weekly goals. This has been working really well for me, and I have felt so much more productive and reflective. It has also allowed me to try new things and to see clearly what my favourite things have been and what has worked well for me.
So lets get into it, shall we?
The Irresistible Introvert – by Michaela Chung
This book was a really interesting read. I am an introvert myself and have consistently let louder, more outgoing people dictate my life and my opinions. However, this book provides evidence that introverts are just as charismatic as extroverts and it advocates that introverts and extroverts are equal and neither should be discriminated against. It provides advice for how introverts can harness their inner power and become their more authentic selves. I took the message that I am powerful in my own right, and I do not have to be extroverted to be respected.
You Do You – by Sarah Knight
At first I did not like this book. My perception of the message was that you must be difficult and selfish to get what you want. However, upon closer reading, I discovered that the message was actually about becoming authentic and about knowing your own boundaries and being able to articulate what you want. Obviously, you won’t always get what you want, but unless you know your own boundaries you will be led along a path that has no benefit for your mental health. I don’t think I’ll ever truly able to be ‘difficult’ like the book advocates, but I will be more mindful of standing up for my own beliefs.
I attempted Adriene’s 30 Day True Yoga Challenge. Every day over the last month she has posted a new video with a basic yoga routine that had a different theme from MOTIVE to BEING YOU. I adored this challenge because you could dip in and out as you pleased and she included modifications for your own ability and level. Adriene is so calming and lovely in her approach to yoga teaching and it definitely made me feel calmer over the last month.
I have only started watching Beth (Miss Anxiety’s) youtube channel over the last month. She is so lovely, and is very interactive with her followers. She is very bravely open about her mental health, and has videos on topics such as ‘Finding The Right Therapist For You‘ and ‘Mental Health And Relationships‘. Her youtube is so informative and honest and I adore her lovely personality.
Speaking of honestly talking about mental health, Demi Lovato is one of my favourite celebrities for talking about her mental health. She is so open and honest about her past and present struggles and is so full of hope for the future. The documentary talks about her eating disorder, her depression and drug abuse, and how she comes out the other side of it, and is now living her more authentic self. Although of course, she still struggles with her mental health, she accepts that part of herself and does not let it deter her from living her life. Respect, Demi.
My gel nail extensions.
I am obsessed with getting my nails done. I find it so relaxing and its a way of pampering myself. I get my gel nail extensions done in Georgia’s Nails and Beauty, Douglas Road, Cork. This month I went for a baby pink colour. I love it.
Nuxe DD cream is so lovely. It stays on really well, and it is quite high coverage. I just used a bit of concealer underneath on blemishes and the DD cream covered my face really well. Plus it smells divine.
Zara Soft Grey Coat
Perfect for this time of year. This coat does what it says on the tin, it is warm and soft and casual enough to wear to work every day. It’s been reduced to €12.99 which is amazing for such a staple piece.
Bershka Pink Coat
I LOVE this pink coat. I know, I know, I’m obsessed with coats. But this one is so lovely for Spring. Its very warm – great for this time of year in Ireland. And it goes so well with black and grey – which is what I always tend to wear. And it’s been reduced to €14.99!!!!
Coffee machine: Nescafe Jovia White By De’Longhi
I am obsessed!!! I love my coffee, and this machine is like a treat for me. The range of coffee pods for it are fantastic and they taste divine.
So those are my January faves. I can’t wait for next month (i.e. tomorrow). It will be SPRING. And I am so ready for it!
